What do groomers consider a small, medium, large dog?
We really don’t price according to weight, we price according to how much work it takes to groom the individual dog.
A Cocker spaniel weighs less than a cattle dog for instance, but takes a LOT longer to groom, so costs more. A Toy poodle that is just in a short cut will cost a lot less than a toy poodle that has to be hand scissored.
I’ve been shaving my dog for the past 10-12 months with a cheap clipper and wanted to invest in a better one. I’ve been looking at Ryan’s Pet Supply on-line, but it’s all so overwhelming.
I prefer Andis but Oster works well also. You want to try Petedge.com for better prices. You will need other blades & coolant to keep from burning your dog.
I am trying to find a website that sells a dog grooming pouch. The pouch attaches to the grooming arm on the table and holds a small dog in the air with its legs hanging for easy access to the legs and feet.
Go here: http://www.showdogstore.com/?gclid=COXYuM3lkI0CFQqtOAodLGH6oA or another dog-show supplier. They have ALL kinds of things. You can even get them wholesale at some sites. good luck!
I recently got a dog from a neighbor. She is a husky mix. She told me that she could not control her when she tried to groom her. She also had no leash manners. It did not take very long to teach her how to walk on a leash. Much to my surprise, I have no trouble with brushing her fur. She seems to really enjoy it. The vet showed me how to clip her nails and brush her teeth. He had no problem doing this, but I do. What could I be doing wrong?
I’m not sure that you’re doing anything wrong, but perhaps the dog is sensing your nervousness, and is just reacting to that. Try to relax and talk to your dog softly the whole time you are either grooming her or brushing her teeth, etc.
Nails are hard to trim on some dogs, and if yours seems to be one of them, then maybe you’d be better off getting your vet or a groomer to do them when needed.
I’m so glad you were able to take this dog and give it a kind and loving home. Your getting the dog to walk on lead and grooming her just proves, dogs want to please us, if we just make it clear what we want them to do.
Good luck with your pretty girl…may you enjoy many happy years with her.
