How to do I groom a dog that doesn’t like it and struggles a lot.?

My dog is shedding. I am trying to get off the shedded hair with a soft brush I bought at the dog store. He fights it terribly. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can remove the shedding hair from my dog? I have tried everything from feeding him treats while I am trying to do it or sneaking up on him and getting it done little by little before he struggles and runs away. Any suggestions? Would taking him to a professional dog groomer do the trick?

Try a groomer for a few visits, once the dog is used to being groomed (by the groomer) it might be easier and more willing for you to do at home … keep an eye out for a grooming table that you could have at home (all the right tools make the job easier)

Note: I have to ask … why did someone give me a thumbs down for my reply (which I’ve tried, and it works), yet another person got got a thumbs up for his rude reply?

To clarify, The reason I say try a groomer for a few visits, is because 1) if you only need a bath and brush out, once the dog is used to standing still after a few sessions at the groomer, you may find it works out nicely at home 2) it can even become nice bonding time 3) Some dogs are terrified of going to the groomer. Also, many groomers often want you to leave your dog for hours where they are in a small cage w/ unfamiliar sounds, etc … I currently have a good groomer, but I’ve also had some very bad experiences w/ groomers.

Can you recommend a dog clippers kit?

I’m hoping to start grooming my own dog.
He’s a poodle mix.
Can you recommend a clippers kit?
I’m hoping something around 50.00 or less. I will be willing to buy a better one after I do it to know I can. (pretty sure I can as I’m always trimming him and hes a very good boy)

Thank you!

Would you use a grooming service that set up in your home or garage and used your tub to bathe your pet?

Cats and small to mid sized dogs. The groomer brings their own equipment, towels,a grooming table, is very experienced, insured, cleaned up well after and was priced like a grooming shop.

If they were qualified, of course people would do it. Cats in particular hate leaving the house and hate getting groomed, it would be great to make it more comfortable.

It may be tough to manage to still make a profit charging like a grooming shop. You need to figure in gas, and you would be seeing less animals due to driving time, and you wouldn’t have a walk in business. I would pay a little more than grooming shop prices knowing that, since it is such a convenient and beneficial service. Its just a matter of finding more of those people.

Dog grooming?????????

If i only take my dog to the groomers for ear cleaning, hair cuts, and sometimes anal gland cleaning, how much would it cost and how often should i go? Thanks!
I will be bathing him, cutting his nails, and brushing teeth at home
He is a Golden retriever 1 1/2 years old

Hi there…
I am a professional dog groomer….
Ok….here we go…now I know the breed and age….
In my shop, a Golden Retriever costs a minimum of $ 55.
If, however you bath him yourself (he has to come in clean and dry!!!) and I don’t have to do the nails, I would probably reduce it to $ 40…Less work, no bath, no dry time…
If however, the bathing and/or nails don’t meet my standards, full rate will apply.
How often??? Does he swim all summer??? Is he matted??? That will depend upon you….
A Golden in GREAT shape should not need more than 2 groomings per year in my book…
If you bathe him yourself…remember this.,,,ALWAYS brush out the matts first or the will dry into unmanageable messes and will have to be shaved.
Personally, I will NOT do the anal gland on a Golden…for 2 reasons…
1) Unless the dog has an issue with them, they are best left alone…any vet will tell you that
2) Goldens are large dogs…their glands need to be expressed internally and since I am NOT a vet tech (just a groomer – but a good one, if I may say so), I only express externally on small dogs and suggest to the owners that the vet do it internally…
I am NOT sticking my fingers in there…my vet offered to train me…NO THANKS!!! I take my large beagle to the vet and let them do it…
GOod luck….love your dog
