GOOD dog CLIPPERS for NOT a LOT of $??????????????

I’ve got an aussie/chow mix…so really long really thick hair with a lot of undercoat. I want to give a trim for the summer but i don’t know which clippers to get. I don’t want to spend a lot of money….less than $80 would be good. and can you give me any tips for bathing and grooming dogs….?

Do not shave your dog for the Summer, you will not be doing it a favor. The undercoat of both breeds serves as insulation against both hot and cold temperatures. In the Winter, the undercoat helps keep the dog warm and in the Summer, it helps to keep the dog cool.

How much you was spend on grooming your dog for a year?

how much did you spend on your dog for grooming each year for a long coat breed or short coat? Did you groom them youself or find a groomer to do it? Your are more prefer mobile grooming service or a grooming salon?

I have found that even in a relatively small city, you can pay just about as much as you want to for dog grooming services!

There was one dog groomer in town that also has obedience classes and doggy day care, and they were charging me $40 for my Pomeranian…not a big dog, but double-coated and not liking to be brushed.

I found another groomer even closer to my home who charges me $37 for the Pom PLUS my Boston "Terror". Plus, my dogs LOVE to go see her, they pull at their leashes to get INTO the building, so I know they don’t hurt the dogs there.

I take my dogs to be groomed about every 6-8 weeks, and in between, we try to keep them brushed a little…sort of…. :) OK, I admit, we’re not good at brushing!

I have some doggy "perfume" I got at the pet store that helps keep the odor down on the Boston, she gets sweaty-smelling.

Has anyone here done a dog grooming course?

We have two rescue mutts and we love them to bits. But they cost a fortune in grooming (they are maltese x poodles). I knew the cost before we took them home and I happily pay it, but I’m thinking that it might be worthwhile doing a short grooming course and buying a set of clippers. Is it really difficult? Can you hurt the dog if you get it wrong? I’m not a hugely co-ordinated or artistic person. I don’t mind how they look, just want to be able to keep the coats short and neat and comfortable. I would still have them done professionally every 3-5 months.

I’m not looking to get into it as a profession, but would love to groom my own dogs. I’d also love to help out at the rescue shelter where I got the dogs, they can never afford to have all their dogs clipped. Any experience to share? Or tips? I’m in Australia, btw :)

In the hands of the wrong person, a dog can die. That includes groomers as well.

My suggestion is that you not only check on the certification of the groomer you use now but you also consider becoming a certified groomer and not just take a class and buy clippers.

Can you recommend electric clipper for grooming a small dog?

My friend said Oster 76, however it is $120. Is there anything comparable not so pricey? or do I need to drop the cash?

I got the $25 one from Target, and it works really well. It was less than the cost of one visit to a groomer, so using it for the last 6 months has saved a lot of money.

Where can i get a good dog hair dryer.?

I need a good hair dryer for my 4 dogs as it takes me ages to dry them with mine, can anyone tell me where i can get a hands free one that i can put on my grooming table and one that does not cost the earth.
Can you let me know if it is ok in England

I just got a new one from hub international, they do sell the same one on ebay but not much cheaper. It is called the Metro Air force quick draw, around £80 excl. vat. I have three rough collies, and for 20 years I have struggled with my own hairdryer, and it took me literally hours to dry each dog. I am not exaggerating by saying it took literally 10 minutes to completely dry one dog after a bath, and she looked stunning afterwards, her coat taking on a different texture to when I have bathed her before. It works by actually forcing the water away from your dog, without the need for hot air which damages the coat, and there was a fine mist of water in the air around the dog as I dried her You can attach the dryer to a hook (which is supplied) underneath your grooming table, a wall etc, leave it free standing on the grooming table, or have the loop around your neck and wear like a handbag. There is a long hose with a couple of different attachments. Worth every penny, wish I had bought one years ago!

Why would my 4th cousin go to dog grooming school?

What is up with that? I don’t think there is such a thing. Most dog grooming shops train their employees on the job. I think she has an averision to college. She wasn’t a good student and was home schooled very poorly later on. Wouldn’t it be best to go to a community college to get started with the basics with some computer courses? At least an Adult school with occupational training? That dog gooming thing is not versatile. It doesn’t stretch. Her family is not much help. They’re misinformed and on the ignorant side. Please help.

maybe she’ll get a reality show on animal planet, who knows? if its what she wants to do why stop her? They do give certification classes on it, and it can eventually pay okay.
